Aussie Kids Mermaid Waters – Child Protection Week Activities

At Aussie Kids during Child Protection Week, we will be engaging children in a range of age-appropriate activities that support their understanding of safety, rights, and seeking help, all aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Through meaningful storytime discussions, children will explore themes of personal safety and body boundaries, supporting their sense of identity and wellbeing (Outcomes 1 & 3). Group time chats will encourage children to identify safe and unsafe feelings, and to recognise trusted adults they can turn to, promoting their communication skills and social awareness (Outcomes 2 & 5). We will also use songs and role-play scenarios to build confidence in expressing feelings and saying “no” when something feels wrong (Outcome 3). Each child will create a “Helping Hands” poster, identifying five trusted adults they can go to for help, building both their resilience and sense of security (Outcomes 1 & 4). Emotion cards, puppets, and mirrors will be used to explore and label different feelings, fostering emotional intelligence (Outcomes 3 & 5). In partnership with families, we will also provide resources and suggestions to continue these important conversations at home, strengthening community support and shared responsibility (QA6). Through these experiences, we aim to empower children with the knowledge and confidence to recognise their right to feel safe, always.
