Bravehearts Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show is a personal safety education program, aligned with the Australian Curriculum and the Early Years Learning Framework. Introduction to personal safety education from a young age, (including body ownership, consent, e-safety, recognising and reporting safe and unsafe feelings, and identifying a safety team of trusted adults), helps empower young children with essential skills to protect themselves from harm. All children have the right to feel safe. By equipping children with knowledge and tools from a young age, they learn to recognise inappropriate behaviour and how to seek help for themselves and their peers. The show’s focus on personal safety is essential for young children’s development. Encouraging children to feel secure and confident can have a positive impact on their overall wellbeing and sense of self-worth.
Ditto Keep Safe Adventure Show uses anatomically correct names for body parts. This helps children to develop body confidence, decrease their vulnerability and increase their resilience. Importantly, this inclusion helps to remove the shame and secrecy historically attached to the use of these words. In the program, anatomically correct words are presented in an age-appropriate way and in context as private body parts (much like an elbow or foot are public body parts). Research shows that children who know the proper names for their private body parts are less likely to suffer sexual abuse.
