Dr Catherine Skellern
“The Edge of Compassion” The risks and rewards in relation to child protection work
Dr Catherine Skellern has extensive experience working in the field of Child Development and Behaviour. Dr Skellern is a Forensic Paediatrician who works in the Child Advocacy Service at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane. Having dual qualifications in Forensic Medicine and Paediatrics, Dr Skellern regularly provides expert evidence to the Legal Justice system on cases that involve allegations of harm to children. In addition to other research interests, Dr Skellern has undertaken research in the field of Child Protection and Forensic Paediatrics, which has included the development of standards for Medico-Legal opinions that arise in the Forensic Evaluation of Suspicious Childhood Injuries. Dr Skellern maintains an academic interest in the field and has published papers in peer-reviewed medical literature related to Autism Spectrum Disorders, Child Protections, Forensic Medicine and Intellectual Disability.
