‘Captivating’ – An Exhibition of Resilience, Memory and Child Protection Through Art
This powerful exhibition brings together two remarkable artists whose work speaks to survival, recognition and the protection of children.
Lana Syed, a Forgotten Australian and survivor of institutional abuse, presents portrait drawings that honour the advocates, friends and community members whose voices united to create lasting change for children in care. Each face carries meaning, acknowledging resilience, gratitude and the collective strength it takes to build a safer future.
Alongside Lana, Aunty Lavern Johnson-Gosling shares vibrant, pattern-rich works designed to captivate young audiences. Her art uplifts and educates, passing on culture, stories and knowledge so the next generation can thrive, not merely survive.
Presented during Queensland Child Protection Week, ‘Captivating’ is more than an exhibition. It is a call to remember, to listen and to protect. Together, these artists amplify voices for change and inspire hope so future generations grow strong.
