Central Queensland Indigenous Development have contracted Encompass to host a training workshop during Child Protection Week. The workshop will be focused on assessing risk in Foster and Kinship Care, which will be highly beneficial learning for Placement Support Officers/workers. This initiative aims to equip our Foster & Kinship Care support workers (CQID, Uniting Care Community, and AnglicareCQ) in Rockhampton, Emerald and Bundaberg regions with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement best practices in child protection. Encompass Family & Community is a leading specialist provider of training, development, and consulting advice to the human services sector.
The workshop offers foster and kinship care support workers the opportunity to clarify and develop their approach in practice to supporting carers, to ensure they are ‘tuned in’ to the structural risks of family-based care, as well as being sensitive to risk profiles for individual children and carers. The workshop aims to promote purposeful and effective support work, within the unique contexts of foster and kinship care, that achieves safety, stability and continuity for children and young people. Informed by the work of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual abuse.
The training will not only empower Placement Support staff to create safe environments for children but will also enable them to impart practical child protection strategies to families. By integrating these strategies into daily routines, we seek to foster a culture of protection and support for all children within our communities.
